Mount Rinjani second summit via senaru

Mount Rinjani 3 Days Senaru Torean Trek with Rinjani Second Summit (3,126m)

A Scenic Start from Senaru Village

The Mount Rinjani 3-day Senaru–Torean trek offers one of the most scenic and well-paced ways to explore Mount Rinjani. It combines diverse landscapes, rich ecosystems, and stunning viewpoints without the pressure of a summit climb.

Starting from Senaru Village (601m), the trail passes through dense rainforest filled with wildlife like macaques and tropical birds. As you climb higher, the views open to dramatic valleys and ridgelines. The first night at the crater rim rewards trekkers with a spectacular sunset over Segara Anak Lake and a sky full of stars.

Day 2: Rinjani Second Summit and Segara Anak Lake

On Day 2, the adventure reaches its highlight with the Rinjani Second Summit trek, standing at 3,126 meters above sea level. This lesser-known peak offers an exciting high-altitude challenge while avoiding the crowds often found on the main summit route. The early morning climb is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding, as trekkers witness a stunning sunrise illuminating the surrounding islands, ocean, and volcanic landscapes.

After descending from the second summit, the journey continues down into the caldera toward the iconic Segara Anak Lake. Known for its striking turquoise color, the lake sits peacefully within the volcanic basin, creating a surreal and tranquil environment. Here, trekkers have time to relax, enjoy lunch by the lakeside, and rejuvenate in the nearby natural hot springs—an especially welcome experience after a challenging climb.

The second night is spent camping at Propok Campsite, surrounded by untouched wilderness and the calming sounds of nature, offering a peaceful end to an adventurous day.

Day 3: Scenic Descent Through Torean Valley

Day 3 offers a completely different kind of beauty as the trek descends through the famous Torean route. Often considered the most picturesque trail on Mount Rinjani, the Torean Valley feels like a hidden paradise.

The path winds through dramatic cliffs, lush green valleys, and dense vegetation, with several waterfalls cascading down the mountainside along the way. Unique rock formations and river crossings add to the sense of adventure, making this descent not just a return journey, but a highlight in itself.

As the trail gradually lowers in elevation, the air becomes warmer and the landscape transitions back into tropical surroundings before reaching Torean Village, where the trek concludes.

Throughout the entire trek, the Mount Rinjani 3 days Senaru Torean route showcases the incredible diversity of Rinjani’s landscapes—from rainforest and alpine ridges to volcanic lakes and tropical valleys. Combined with the unforgettable Rinjani second summit experience, this trek offers a perfect balance of challenge, scenery, and cultural connection.

Ideal for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking for a more immersive trekking experience, this route is truly one of the best ways to discover the magic of Mount Rinjani from multiple perspectives—all in one unforgettable journey.

Day 1 – Senaru Village to Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m)

Your trek begins in Senaru Village, a quiet mountain settlement on the northern slopes of Mount Rinjani. This village serves as the main gateway to the national park and offers a peaceful starting point before heading into the wilderness.

The first day takes you through dense tropical rainforest, where tall trees form a natural canopy that keeps the trail cool and shaded. Along the way, you may hear the sounds of birds and wildlife, and with some luck, spot the Lombok ebony leaf monkey moving through the forest. The trail gradually climbs throughout the day, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude.

07:00 – Registration & Trek Start

The day starts at the Senaru trekking post, where you complete registration and meet your guide and porters. After a short briefing, the trek begins with a gentle walk through local farmland before entering the rainforest.

Morning Break – POS 1 (915 m)

After a steady hike, you’ll reach the first rest point. This is a good place to pause, enjoy some water and snacks, and take in the cool forest atmosphere.

Late Morning – POS 2 (1,500 m)

The trail continues deeper into the forest, with a gradual but consistent incline. At POS 2, you’ll take another short break to recover energy before continuing higher.

Midday – Lunch at POS 3 / Mondokan Lolak (2,000 m)

By midday, you’ll arrive at POS 3 where your team prepares a freshly cooked lunch. Take time to rest, enjoy hot drinks, and recharge before the more challenging section ahead.

Afternoon – Final Ascent to the Crater Rim

After lunch, the trek becomes more demanding. The path grows steeper, with exposed roots and rocky sections requiring extra attention. Your guide will keep a steady pace with regular breaks to help you conserve energy.

As you gain elevation, the dense forest begins to thin out, and the landscape slowly opens up. Cooler air and wider views signal that you are getting closer to the crater rim.

15:30 – 16:00 – Arrival at Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m)

Reaching the crater rim is the highlight of the day. From here, you’ll be rewarded with expansive views of the lake below, the volcanic cone rising from within the caldera, and distant mountains on the horizon when the weather is clear.

As the sun sets, the scenery transforms into a dramatic display of colors, creating one of the most memorable moments of the trek.

Your team will set up camp and prepare dinner while you relax and take in the surroundings. The evening is calm and peaceful, with a sky full of stars above the mountain landscape.

Day 2 — Senaru Crater Rim to Sangkareang Second Summit, Segara Anak Lake & Propok Camp

Early Morning Ascent to Sangkareang (Second Summit – 3,126 m)

Early Morning Ascent to Sangkareang (3,126 m)

Day two begins before sunrise with an optional hike to Sangkareang Peak, the second summit of Mount Rinjani. This viewpoint offers one of the best panoramas on the trek.

At 03:30 AM, wake up and enjoy a light breakfast with hot tea or coffee.
By 04:00 AM, start the ascent along a narrow ridge above the crater. The trail can be steep, but a steady pace makes it manageable.
Around 06:00 AM, reach the summit just in time for sunrise.

From the top, admire wide views over Lombok Island, Segara Anak Lake, and the crater below. On clear days, you can also see Mount Agung in Bali and even Sumbawa in the distance.

Return to Camp and Breakfast

At 06:30 AM, begin the descent back to the Senaru Crater Rim campsite.
Between 07:30 and 08:30 AM, arrive at camp and enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast.

After eating, take time to rest, pack your gear, and prepare for the next part of the journey.

Descent to Segara Anak Lake (2,000 m)

At around 09:00 AM, continue trekking down toward Segara Anak Lake.
This section takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and passes through steep volcanic terrain.

Loose rocks and narrow paths require careful footing, but your guide will assist when needed.
By late morning (around 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM), you will reach the lakeshore.

Lunch Break at Segara Anak Lake

From 12:00 to 01:00 PM, enjoy lunch and relax by the lake.
The peaceful surroundings make it a perfect place to recover.

From this spot, you can clearly see Mount Baru Jari rising from inside the lake, one of the most iconic views of Mount Rinjani.

Visit the Natural Hot Springs

At 01:00 PM, walk to the nearby hot springs.
Spend about 30 minutes soaking in the warm mineral water.

This relaxing break helps ease tired muscles after the long descent.

Trek to Propok Camp (2,300 m)

Around 02:00 PM, continue trekking toward Propok Camp.
The trail gradually climbs away from the lake and passes rugged terrain, including Goa Susu.

Some sections are narrow and steep, with ladders or handholds to assist the climb.
By approximately 05:00 PM, arrive at Propok Camp.

Evening at Propok Camp

After arrival, relax with tea or coffee while dinner is prepared.
Dinner is usually served around 07:00 PM.

Temperatures can drop to 10–12°C at night, so warm clothing is recommended.
On clear evenings, enjoy a sky full of stars before resting for the next day.

Day 3 — Scenic Descent via the Torean Valley

Your final day on Mount Rinjani is a rewarding journey through the stunning Torean Valley, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful trekking routes on the mountain. Today’s descent offers a completely different landscape, filled with greenery, rivers, and dramatic canyon views.

Route: Propok Camp (2,300 m) → Torean Valley → Torean Village (601 m)

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

The day begins with a peaceful morning at Propok Camp. As the sun rises over the valley, enjoy a warm breakfast and fresh coffee while taking in the quiet atmosphere of the mountains—one last moment to appreciate the highlands before heading down.

07:00 AM – Begin the descent

After breakfast, you’ll start your trek toward Torean Village. Although the route is mostly downhill, it still requires careful footing and steady energy. The total distance is around 10 km, with an estimated trekking time of 6–7 hours.

The trail gradually drops from camp before opening into the dramatic Torean Valley. This section is known for its narrow paths along the canyon walls, often referred to locally as “jalan kurus” (the narrow track). Here, trekkers move in single file, and your guide will ensure safety through the more exposed sections.

Into the green valley

As you descend further, the scenery transforms into a lush tropical environment. The air becomes warmer and more humid, and the trail winds through dense bamboo groves, forested paths, and alongside flowing rivers.

Along the way, you’ll pass small waterfalls, cross natural rock formations, and walk through shaded forest corridors that feel untouched and serene.

One of the most memorable viewpoints is the spectacular Penimbungan Waterfall, which cascades down the canyon cliffs—an iconic highlight of the Torean route and a perfect photo opportunity.

11:30 AM – Lunch by the riverside

Midday, you’ll stop for a well-deserved lunch beside the river. Relax as your trekking team prepares a freshly cooked meal, typically including fried rice or noodles, vegetables, and seasonal fruit. The sound of flowing water and the surrounding forest create a peaceful setting to recharge.

12:30 – 01:30 PM – Final stretch to Torean Village

After lunch, continue the last part of your descent. The trail becomes gentler as it follows the river, crossing small bridges and passing through local farmland before reaching Torean Village.

Our Small-Group Mount Rinjani Trekking Experience

At Jou Trekking, we focus on delivering a more personal and enjoyable Mount Rinjani trekking experience by keeping our groups small and well-organized. This approach allows every hiker to fully enjoy the journey, with better support, flexibility, and comfort on the mountain.

Small Groups for a Better Experience

We intentionally limit the number of participants on each trek to maintain quality and safety. Most of our groups include 4–5 trekkers, with a maximum of 6 people per trip.

With fewer people, our guides can give more individual attention, adjust the pace when needed, and create a more relaxed trekking environment. This makes a big difference, especially on challenging sections like the summit push.

Friendly and Well-Balanced Groups

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends, we carefully organize groups to ensure a good mix of participants.

Many of our guests come from different countries, creating a social and welcoming atmosphere. It’s common for trekkers to start as strangers and finish the journey as friends, sharing an unforgettable adventure together.

Professional Local Guides and Porters

Every trek is supported by a skilled local team with extensive experience on Mount Rinjani. Our guides are trained in safety procedures and mountain navigation, while our porters handle all logistics, including camping gear, food, and equipment.

This allows you to focus on the experience — enjoying the scenery, the climb, and the overall adventure — without worrying about the details.

Support Team Structure

We carefully arrange our team based on group size to ensure comfort and efficiency throughout the trek:

  • 4 trekkers: 1 guide + 4 porters
  • 5 trekkers: 2 guides + 5 porters
  • 6 trekkers: 2 guides + 6 porters

This balanced setup ensures you receive enough support while maintaining a smooth and enjoyable trekking pace.

More Than Just a Trek

Climbing Mount Rinjani is not only about reaching the summit — it’s about the entire journey. From stunning crater views to the unique experience of camping under the stars, every moment is part of the adventure.
