Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Difference Between the 4-Day and 3-Day Rinjani Trek?

The main difference is the pace and overall experience.

4 Days / 3 Nights is a more relaxed trek with shorter hiking days, allowing more time to enjoy the scenery, rest at campsites, visit Segara Anak Lake and hot springs, and explore the mountain at a comfortable pace.

3 Days / 2 Nights follows a faster schedule and covers the same major highlights, including the summit, crater lake, and Torean or Senaru route, but requires longer hiking hours each day.

If you prefer a less rushed adventure with more time to enjoy Mount Rinjani, the 4-day trek is recommended. If you are fit and have limited time, the 3-day trek is an excellent option.

This trek follows the classic Sembalun to Senaru route, covering all of Mount Rinjani’s main highlights, including the summit, Segara Anak Lake, natural hot springs, and both the Sembalun and Senaru crater rims.

A USD 65 deposit per person is required to confirm your booking and is non-refundable. National park permits that have already been issued cannot be refunded or transferred. Any refundable balance will be returned according to our cancellation policy, excluding permit and deposit fees.

Yes. From April 1, 2026, all trekkers on Mount Rinjani are required to have valid travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trekking accidents, and emergency evacuation.

If you do not have suitable coverage, Premium Trekking Insurance can be arranged through the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority for USD 18 per person before the trek begins.

The 4D3N trek is rated moderate to challenging. The extra day allows for a slower pace and more time to enjoy the scenery compared to shorter Rinjani programs.

The trek typically begins between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM after registration and a briefing at the national park entrance.

You can leave your luggage safely at the Jou Trekking office while you are hiking Mount Rinjani. We recommend bringing only the essentials needed for the trek and storing any extra bags, suitcases, or non-hiking items with us free of charge until you return from the mountain.

Before your Mount Rinjani trek, you’ll stay at Jou Trekking Guesthouse, our official meeting point for pre-trek briefings, equipment checks, and departure.

Guests can enjoy clean rooms, hot showers, and fast Wi-Fi before the adventure. For those booking a trek package without accommodation or transportation, Jou Trekking Guesthouse remains the official meeting point before the trek.

Luggage storage is also available during your hike.

Day 1 involves approximately 6–8 hours of trekking to the Sembalun Crater Rim. Day 2 starts around 2:00 AM for the summit attempt and concludes with the descent back to Sembalun.

The summit ascent usually starts between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM to ensure hikers reach the peak in time for sunrise.

Temperatures at the crater rim can drop below 10°C, while temperatures near the summit can approach 4°C, especially during the dry season.

We recommend bringing:
