Itinerary

Day 0 — Arrival in Senaru & Pre-Trek Stay

Your Mount Rinjani adventure begins with a complimentary transfer to Senaru Village. We provide free pick-up from various locations across Lombok, making your journey to the starting point easy and stress-free. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to our guesthouse and relax before the trek starts the following morning.

  • Senggigi / Mataram: 10:00–11:00 AM or 04:00 PM
  • Tetebatu / Pringgasela: 09:00–10:00 AM

Our Recommendation

For the best experience, we suggest selecting a morning transfer whenever possible. Arriving in Senaru earlier gives you enough time to relax, explore the village, enjoy the fresh mountain atmosphere, and get a good night’s sleep before your trek.

Day 1 – Sembalun Village to Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m)

Your adventure begins in Sembalun Village (1,156 m), following a scenic trail across open savannah with panoramic views of Mount Rinjani’s surrounding landscape. The gradual ascent provides a comfortable start before the trail becomes steeper after Pos 3.

The final climb to the Sembalun Crater Rim is the most challenging section of the day, rewarding trekkers with spectacular views of Segara Anak Lake, the caldera, and the summit above.

Arriving at the crater rim camp (2,639 m) in the late afternoon, you’ll enjoy a beautiful sunset, a freshly prepared dinner, and an overnight stay overlooking one of Indonesia’s most iconic volcanic landscapes.

Day 2: Summit Sunrise, Segara Anak Lake & Provok campsite

Begin with an early morning summit ascent to Mount Rinjani (3,726 m) and enjoy breathtaking sunrise views over Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and Segara Anak Lake.

After breakfast at the Sembalun Crater Rim, descend to Segara Anak Lake to relax, enjoy the natural hot springs, and have lunch. In the afternoon, continue along the scenic Torean route through lush forests, valleys, rivers, and waterfalls before camping near Penimbungan Waterfall.

After approximately 5 km of trekking, arrive at Torean Village, marking the end of your Mount Rinjani adventure. Our driver will then transfer you back to Senaru Village.

What Is the Difference Between the 3-Day Senaru and Torean Routes?

Both treks follow the same route for the first two days: Sembalun Village → Sembalun Crater Rim → Mount Rinjani Summit → Segara Anak Crater Lake and Hot Springs.

The main difference is the final day’s descent.

3 Days 2 Nights Sembalun – Senaru

  • Descend through the traditional Senaru trail.
  • Hike through dense tropical rainforest.
  • Camp at Senaru Crater Rim on the second night.
  • Offers spectacular views overlooking the crater lake and Mount Agung in Bali.
  • More physically demanding due to the steep descent.

Which Route Should I Choose?

  • Choose Sembalun–Torean if you prefer a more diverse landscape, beautiful waterfalls, and a scenic descent through the valley. Many trekkers consider this the most rewarding route on Mount Rinjani.
What Is Your Cancellation and Refund Policy?

A USD 50 booking deposit is required to secure your reservation and is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Please note that once Mount Rinjani National Park permits have been issued, the permit fees cannot be refunded or transferred to another person or trekking date.

If you have paid the full trekking fee and need to cancel your booking, any eligible refundable balance will be returned, excluding the non-refundable deposit and any non-refundable permit fees that have already been processed.

Yes. From April 1, 2026, all trekkers on Mount Rinjani are required to have valid travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trekking accidents, and emergency evacuation.
 
If you do not have suitable coverage, Premium Trekking Insurance can be arranged through the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority for USD 18 per person before the trek begins.

You can leave your luggage safely at the Jou Trekking office while you are hiking Mount Rinjani. We recommend bringing only the essentials needed for the trek and storing any extra bags, suitcases, or non-hiking items with us free of charge until you return from the mountain.

Yes. Jou Trekking provides unlimited drinking water throughout the trek to keep hikers hydrated.

Yes. All meals and drinking water are included throughout the trek. Our guides and porters prepare fresh meals at the campsite, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, fresh fruit, and hot drinks.

We are happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets, as well as most other dietary requirements. Simply let us know your dietary preferences or food allergies when you make your booking, and we will prepare suitable meals for your trek.

Previous hiking experience is helpful but not required. However, participants should be in good physical condition and prepared for a demanding trek.

The 3D2N trek is considered challenging. Trekkers should be prepared for steep climbs, loose volcanic gravel, long hiking hours, and changing weather conditions.

The best trekking season is generally from April to October when weather conditions are typically dry and stable
